How to share a 20 GB LAS file with a client
A 20 GB LAS does not email, and the person waiting for it does not have LAS software. Upload it once, send a link, and let the browser stream it.
Why 20 GB is a problem
Email stops at 25 MB. Drive, Dropbox and WeTransfer move the bytes, but the client then downloads 20 GB over an office connection and ends up with a file nothing on their machine opens. Shipping a drive takes days and ends the same way. A screenshot opens, but it is not the point cloud.
What works: upload once, send a link
- Create an account and upload the LAS from the browser. The upload goes straight to storage in parts, with retries.
- Conversion to a streaming format runs on ViewerFX servers. An email arrives when the file is ready. Multi-gigabyte files typically take 15 to 40 minutes.
- Copy the link from the file list. Add a password if the data is sensitive.
- Send it by email, Teams or text. The client opens it in a browser. Only the points on screen stream, so the size stops mattering.
Proof it handles the size
There is no per-file cap. The largest file converted so far is a 19.8 GB LAS with 530 million points, on 2026-10-29. Starter plan customers run multi-gigabyte files every week.
Which plan holds a 20 GB LAS
| Plan | Storage | Stored files | Fits a 20 GB LAS |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free, $0 | 2 GB | 2 | No |
| Starter, $29 a month | 50 GB | 10 | Yes, two of them |
| Pro, $79 a month | 250 GB | 40 | Yes |
| Business, $199 a month | 1 TB | 200 | Yes |
Storage counts the converted file, a compressed LAZ, so a LAS original usually takes less room than its size on your disk. Full details on the pricing page.
What the client gets
- The whole cloud in a browser, on a laptop or a phone, with nothing to install.
- No account. The link is all they need.
- Distance, height, area and spot elevation, in feet or metres.
- Section cut, plan view with a scale bar, colour by elevation or classification.
- Annotations pinned to the cloud, so the file explains itself.
- It opens from a Teams chat the same as from an email.
Keep control
- Password on the link. Revoke it the moment the project closes.
- The file list shows how many times the link was opened. Email on the first open.
- Download the converted LAZ at any time. Delete the file and it is gone.

Common questions
- Is there a file size limit?
- No per-file cap. The largest file converted so far is a 19.8 GB LAS with 530 million points. Only your plan's total storage counts.
- How long does a 20 GB LAS take?
- The upload depends on your connection. Conversion of multi-gigabyte files typically takes 15 to 40 minutes, and the biggest take longer. You get an email when the file is ready, so there is no need to keep the tab open.
- Does my client have to download 20 GB?
- No. The link opens a streaming viewer that fetches only the points on screen. A 20 GB file opens in a browser in seconds, on a laptop or a phone.
- Can my client download the file?
- Not from the link. Viewers see and measure; the file stays in your account. Your workspace owner and admins can download the converted LAZ at any time.
- What does it cost?
- Starter is $29 a month for 50 GB and 10 stored files. The free plan holds 2 GB, so a 20 GB file needs a paid plan. Viewers never pay.
