E57 files
Open and share E57 files online
Upload an E57 from any scanner and get a link that opens in a browser. The person you send it to needs no software and no account.
E57 is the open exchange format for laser scans, published as ASTM E2807. Leica Cyclone, FARO SCENE, Trimble RealWorks and Autodesk ReCap all export it. Windows and macOS have no built-in app that opens it.
How to open an E57 online
- Create a free account. The free plan holds 2 GB and 2 files.
- Upload the .e57. It converts on our servers to a streaming format. You can close the page while it runs.
- Open the file, or copy its share link and send it.
The free browser viewer opens LAS and LAZ on your own machine with nothing uploaded. E57 has to be uploaded and converted first.
What the viewer does
- Streams the whole scan, whatever the file size
- Opens in any modern browser, in Teams and on phones
- Distance and spot elevation measuring
- Annotations pinned to the scan
- Interior scans open in a dollhouse view with the ceiling cut away
- Plan view, room area in sq ft or m², and walk mode at eye height
Sharing an E57 file
Each file gets a link. Anyone with it can view, with no account, and viewers are unlimited on every plan. Add a password, or revoke the link when the job ends.
A multi-gigabyte E57 is too big for email, and the person who receives it still needs software to open it. A link avoids both.
Other formats
The same upload takes LAS, LAZ, PLY, PCD, PTS and PTX. Whatever the source format, you can download the converted file as LAZ. See pricing for storage and file limits.
Common questions
- Is there a free E57 viewer online?
- Yes. A free ViewerFX account opens and shares E57 files, with 2 GB of storage and 2 stored files. Free share links carry a small ViewerFX badge. No card needed.

- Not in ViewerFX. E57 files are converted on our servers before they stream. LAS and LAZ open in the free browser viewer on your own machine, with nothing uploaded.
- How big can the E57 file be?
- There is no per-file cap. Only your plan’s total storage counts.
- Does it work on a Mac or a phone?

- Any scanner or software that writes E57, LAS or LAZ, including Leica, FARO, Trimble and NavVis exports and Matterport E57 files.
- Can I convert an E57 to LAZ?
